The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday dismissed a bail application preferred by V.P. Pandi alias ‘Attack’ Pandi (36), once a close aide of the former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri, in a case booked by Madurai city police on charges of murdering the latter’s another confidante N. Suresh Babu alias ‘Pottu’ Suresh at TVS Nagar here on January 31, 2013.
Justice V.M. Velumani rejected the plea on the ground that the petitioner was involved in several criminal cases and there were chances of him absconding, threatening witnesses, and tampering with evidence if he was enlarged on bail.
The judge took note of the fact that he had been declared a proclaimed offender before his arrest in Mumbai on September 21 last.
“The petitioner indulged in a number of criminal activities of serious nature and 20 cases are registered against him and even now 18 cases are pending against him and serious allegations are made against the petitioner that he engaged hirelings and terrorised the people of Madurai. Due to enmity, he meticulously planned and murdered the deceased.
“He was absconding and declared a proclaimed offender. His properties were attached.
