Police to probe medico’s death

The Kalamassery police have launched a probe into the alleged medical negligence behind the death of an MBBS student at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Monday.

Officials said a case under IPC Section 304(a) for causing death by negligence had been registered and statements of the victim’s parents were collected.

An autopsy of the deceased’s body was carried out at the Government Medical College in Alappuzha.

“The probe will be carried out with the help of experts in the field and the arrests will be made only after a probe by the Medical Board,” officials said.

Shamna Thasneen died on Monday night reportedly following complications arising from the administering of an injection at the medical college.

Though she was shifted to a private hospital, the student died a few hours later.
