The Ernakulam rural police have arrested a Tamil Nadu-based casual worker on charge of murdering his colleague.
The accused, identified as Arjunan, a native of Marthandam, was arrested from his hometown by a police team lead by Kunnathunadu sub inspector Shojo Varghese.
The case pertains to the finding of a decomposed body from an isolated location in Kollamkudy near Kunnathunadu last month. During investigation, the police identified the deceased as Ravi Paniyanchery, a casual labourer.
The post-mortem confirmed physical assault as the cause of death.
Further investigations revealed that Ravi was killed in a drunken brawl with Arjunan, who went into hiding soon after the incident.
“During a drinking session, an altercation broke out between the two over delay in returning the money Arjunan had borrowed from Ravi. It resulted in a fight, in which Ravi received heavy blows on his chest and head,” officials said.
The assault took place in the presence of Suresh, the owner of the house where they had been staying for several months.
Arjunan was produced in a local court and remanded in custody.
