A home nurse, who allegedly stabbed the woman at whose residence near North Paravur she was working and stole their gold jewellery, has been arrested from Andhra Pradesh along with her associate.

Mary Pereira, 35, of Poonthura, and Kiran, also known as Vishnu, both of Thiruvananthapuram, were arrested from Cudappah in Andhra Pradesh on Friday and brought to Paravur by Saturday afternoon.

Mary had been employed at a residence at Perumbadanna on April 1 to take care of an elderly lady who was living there alone. Three days later, Mary telephoned the woman’s daughter and asked her to come to the house. She allegedly stabbed the daughter on the head with a knife, tied her up, and made away with about eight sovereigns of gold and some cash, police said.

“Mary immediately left for Thiruvananthapuram to meet Vishnu, with whom she was having an affair. They pawned two gold bangles for Rs.25,000 and made their way to Andhra Pradesh,” said Aluva deputy superintendent of police V.K. Sanil Kumar. The police traced the duo to a rented house at Cudappah and a team from the Paravur police led by circle inspector T.B. Vijayan made the arrest.
