The Kerala High Court on Thursday granted bail to V.R. Mohanan Pillai, the suspended Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Muvattupuzha, who has been arrested in connection with a bribery case.

He was caught red-handed by the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000. The action by Vigilance was based on a complaint lodged by one Mathew Daniel of Vazhakkulam. He had complained that the official had demanded a bribe for granting the permit for erecting a compound wall in a property at Vengachodu near Muvattupuzha.

The petitioner, praying for bail, argued that the major part of the investigation was over.

Granting him bail, Justice B. Kemal Pasha observed that continued detention of the petitioner was not required for the investigation of the case.
