Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate S. Aji Kumar on Saturday granted the special investigation team permission to conduct a test identification parade in the rape-murder case at Perumbavoor.

The magistrate appointed Shibu Daniel, Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM), Kunnumpuram, to hold the identification parade. The identification parade will be held at the Ernakulam district jail on a date fixed by the JFCM. The order was passed on an application filed by P.N. Unnirajan, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, seeking to conduct the test identification parade without delay.

Ameerul Islam, an Assam native arrested in connection with the case, was remanded in judicial custody till June 30 on Friday when he was produced before the Perumbavoor First Class Judicial Magistrate Court.

Scientific examination

Meanwhile, in its remand report submitted to the Perumbavoor magistrate court, the police said that on scientific examination of the bite marks seen on the clothes worn by the woman, it was found that the DNA samples matched with that of the accused.

Also, the bloodstains on the sandals recovered from the canal, suspected to have been worn by the accused, were found matched with the DNA sample of the murdered woman. Two roommates of the accused, Jujal and Munattal Jamal, had identified that the sandals belonged to the accused. They told the police that the accused had left Aluva on April 28 night by a train.

The investigation has revealed that he had committed the offence covered under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC. Therefore, investigation is conducted after incorporating this section.
