Boy ‘tortured’ by parents in critical condition

August 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:09 am IST - KOCHI:

The Adimaly police on Wednesday registered a case against Nazir and Zaleena, parents of nine-year-old Naufal, on charge of torturing their child even as the condition of the boy remains serious at the Government Medical College at Kalamassery here.

A case has been registered against the accused under the IPC Sections 334 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means); 326 A (causing permanent or partial damage or deformity or burns) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention) against the parents.

Nazir is currently lodged at the Devikulam sub-jail in a ganja case.

Zaleena was shifted to a rescue home in Adimaly and a decision on whether to record her arrest would be taken after consultations with higher-ups, as she has a three-month-old baby and an eight-year-old son along with her, said police officials at the Adimaly police station.

Victim’s statement

Police said that the statement of Naufal was recorded on Wednesday morning. The boy had told the officials that his parents had been torturing him for long.

He also revealed that the father and mother had thrown hot water on his body.

Doctors at the medical college confirmed that Naufal had sustained serious injuries that included fracture of knee and injuries in his elbow.

Several other parts of the body were also injured. “We suspect that these may have been caused intentionally using some blunt objects,” they said.

The boy is being monitored round-the-clock by a team of specialist doctors at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

His condition remains serious even though the boy is responding to queries and having food and water. Doctors said that the next 48 hours would be crucial for the child.
