Airline asked to pay compensation

May 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KOCHI:

The Ernakulam Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Jet Airways to pay a compensation of Rs.1 lakh to a passenger for the ordeal he suffered at the hands of an airline staffer at Cochin International Airport.

The forum headed by its president Cherian K. Kuriakose ordered the airline to pay the compensation to Gokuldas of Palakkad within a month. Mr. Gokuldas had purchased a confirmed round-trip ticket for Abu Dhabi from Kochi on the flight No. 9W 575 on December 16, 2013.

However, the airline supervisor tore off his boarding pass after speaking to somebody over phone, saying that no seats were available on that flight. As a result, the complainant was unable to travel on that flight and rejoin duty in Dubai on time. — Special Correspondent
