Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has condemned the police action against the leaders of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) in the district following clashes between KSU and DYFI activists here on Saturday.
Mr. Chennithala said the Congress party had taken a serious note of the police raids at the houses of KSU district leaders. “We strongly protest against the incident in which the police barged in to their houses and used indecent language against their family members,” he said.
Stating that the police had failed to take action against the SFI activists who had burnt the chair of the Principal of Maharaja’s College, Mr. Chennithala said SFI activists had hurled stones from inside the campus when the march organised by the KSU against the attacks by the SFI reached the college premises.
Law Academy issue
Referring to the Law Academy issue, Mr. Chennithala said the government had failed to resolve the deadlock. “The ruling front should explain why they could not find a solution to the issue. The demands raised by the students should be accepted,” he said.
He expressed doubts on whether the probe into the death of Jishnu Pranoy, an engineering student of Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre at Pampadi, was progressing in the right direction.
