The South Central Railway on Thursday terminated two express trains at different places of Guntur district due to heavy rains that saw seven breaches to tracks. In what was described as a mammoth exercise, about 2,500 passengers were put on board buses to bring them here.

While the Secunderabad-bound Falaknuma Express was caught between two stretches of breached railway tracks near Bellamkonda, between Nadikudi and Guntur, the Vikarabad-bound Palnadu Express was stopped at Reddygudem station because it could not proceed further due to breaches ahead.

General Manager Ravindra Gupta thanked an alert Permanent Way Inspector who was in the cabin of the locomotive on what is described as ‘Footplate Inspection’ in Railway parlance, the Falaknuma Express and its passengers were saved from danger. The train had just moved from Bellamkonda and cautiously proceeding towards its destination.
