‘Sack Kadiam, Lakshma’

August 06, 2016 01:47 am | Updated 01:47 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telugu Desam Party, Telangana unit, has demanded that the State government drop Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari and Health Minister C. Lakshma Reddy from the Cabinet for their “criminal negligence” in handling the conduct of the Eamset examination that caused agony to thousands of students.

The Telangana government, State Council for Higher Education, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University (JNTU) failed miserably to conduct the examination effectively, and their indifference gave scope for the leakage of the question paper. The situation was so pathetic that the government did not wake up till the parents of some students lodged complaint against the leak, TDP-TS president L. Ramana alleged.

Mr. Ramana led a delegation of the TDP-TS leaders to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan seeking his intervention in punishing the guilty. They demanded that the government order probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) instead of the CID to bring the real culprits to book. The education sector has seen several crises because of the inefficient policies of the government over the past two years. This was evident from the manner in which the High Court had struck down the orders relating to appointment of Vice-Chancellors to some universities.

In a separate memorandum, the TDP delegation complained about the indiscriminate manner in which the government was resorting to acquisition of land belonging to the poor, throwing the lives of farmers, farm labour, and artisans into jeopardy. The High Court’s decision to strike down GO 123 issued for land acquisition has exposed the blatant mistakes in the issuance of the orders.

Explaining the sequence of events that led to the High Court’s decision, they wanted the Governor to intervene in the matter and ensure that steps were taken to provide compensation in line with the provisions under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
