Demanding KG to Class XII education at village level, teachers’ unions and academicians came together to launch Telangana People’s Education Reform Society here on Sunday, under the chairmanship of social scientist Kancha Ilaiah. Former MLC Narayana is the Society’s general secretary.

At a meeting at Tagore Auditorium of Osmania University, it was decided to demand three units of schooling at village level right since the child attains the age of three, the first from KG up to Class IV, the second from Class V to VIII, and the third from Class IX to XII. Multiple schools should be set up under each unit based on the population of school-going children, Prof. Ilaiah demanded. English medium should be introduced in all schools and nutritious food should be provided with funds from SC/ST sub plan. Elimination of Intermediate is crucial to curb the loot and unhealthy practices of corporate colleges, he said.

Education is the only source of livelihood for Telangana youth owing to the geography of the region, Prof. Ilaiah said. Efforts will be made to build a massive movement by next elections based on the demands, he added.
