The Osmania Medical College (OMC) administration has appointed a three-member committee to probe the tragic incident of March 14, when four of its students were killed in a road accident.

The heads of the psychiatry, pharmacology and forensic medicine departments are part of the committee, said Dr. B. Prabhakar, principal, OMC.

Speaking at a press conference organised by OMC alumni, he said that the college has also asked the government to sanction four 50-seater and two 25-seater buses for the benefit of students.

“There are buses in the college too, but they are not fit to be used for long distances, and are in a bad condition,” he added.

Dr. Prabhakar also stated that the three-member committee will also take the help of two students from OMC.

Post the incident, two students Rajesh and Sujeet Reddy, who were seriously injured, are currently undergoing treatment in the Andhra hospital in Vijayawada.

“While Rajesh is on comatose, Sujeet is recovering. A medical team from here is also constantly monitoring their conditions,” he added.

Since Sujeet is recovering, his family has asked if he could be shifted to Hyderabad, said Dr. Prabhakar.

“Only when his condition is stable, we can consider it,” he added.

At the press conference, the Osmania Medical College Old Students Association Trust donated Rs.30 lakh to OMC for the welfare of students.

“The Rs.30 lakh being given is not for the deceased, but for the college. We should hang our heads in shame. When I was studying here, we had our own bus, which we used for extra-curricular activities,” said Pratap Reddy, vice-chairman of the trust.

Post the incident, students of OMC also put forth a list of demands to the principal, among which they have demanded that a student body, which would be formed soon, be recognised by the institution.

The students, who were on protest on Saturday, have also demanded that immediate financial assistance of Rs.25 lakh be given to each family of the deceased.

The OMC students also conducted a condolence meeting on the college’s premises on Saturday afternoon.

At the meeting, where family members of the four deceased students also present, angry students questioned officials present there, including Dr. Prabhakar, about the incident.
