In less than a week, two patients who had undergone spinal surgery sat and addressed media during an interaction on Monday.

Made possible by robot-guided spinal surgical technique, the patients, one a wife of a former Mozambique Health and Foreign Minister, were presented before the media by Apollo Hospitals.

Senior neurologist Alok Rajan announced that minimally invasive robotic spine surgery has a very small margin for errors and allows for faster recovery of a patient compared to conventional spine surgery which involves placing screws along the spine.

The robotic surgery is performed with the assistance of Mazor robotics, a system that allows planning and precision guiding during surgery.

Dr. Rajan informed that eight surgeries were performed last month.
