IT & Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao once again got a glimpse of the badly maintained roads, water logging at several spots, bus shelters sans any provisions for passengers in the twin cities when he undertook a sudden inspection on Tuesday midnight at Kukatpally.

The Minister, accompanied by GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and other officials, appeared quite frustrated over the condition of civic amenities and pulled up the officials concerned even as he interacted with the local people. Traversing through the highway and the lanes in the area, he lamented the lack of proper coordination between the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the municipal authorities.

The municipal corporation was asked to ensure that all the ongoing works including roads, drains, etc., should be completed within the stipulated time frame. He was also upset over the condition of the bus shelters where there were no seating arrangements for the passengers and wanted proper shelters to be taken up on a priority. Mr. Rao inspected the accident spot where school girl Ramya died when a car crashed into the car she was travelling with her uncles, mother and grandfather last week near the Punjagutta cremation ground. Observing that the road stretch was pretty narrow at the spot, he wanted the engineering staff to come up with effective solutions for such stretches.

The inspection continued till 2.30 a.m. in the morning and the Minister said that he would be taking up more such surprise visits in the twin cities during the nights so as to cause minimal inconvenience to the commuters as day time visits will affect the traffic movement.
