KCR to take a relook at model schools

February 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:07 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has felt the need to take a relook at the future of model schools in Telangana as the scheme which the Centre introduced in the past was not implemented in several States while some others rejected it.

The issue figured at a review meeting on education sector presided over by the Chief Minister on Tuesday. As part of reforming the sector and bringing in new policy in Telangana, Mr. Rao asked Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari and Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma to take up a comprehensive study to bring supervision of various types of educational institutions under one umbrella.

In a review meeting held here on Tuesday, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said the existing education system was unable to make students employable and reducing them into unemployed youth by the time they come out of colleges. He suggested that the new policy, to be introduced by the commencement of the next academic year, should keep in mind the employability aspect.

He decided to handover supervision of all types of educational institutions except medical, agricultural and pharmaceutical to the Education Department.

Supervision of various types of institutions, including schools, colleges, professional colleges, industrial training institutes, residential schools, study circles and others by different departments, was making the whole concept of education confusing, he stated.

The Chief Minister felt that lack of proper supervision of various types of educational institutions was making imparting education incomprehensive. Besides, students were not being prepared to suit the employment needs as the State and Central governments’ focus was only on the employment tests taken up by the Public Service Commissions.
