Ford India launches ASSET Centre at ITI

The ASSET in Musheerabad was the eighth in the series in India

Automobile major Ford India has said about 250 youngsters pursuing courses at Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) will find gainful employment working with Ford dealers and authorised service centres, as they get hands-on training simultaneously.

Strategic partnership

Company Vice-President (Customer Service Operations) N. Prabhu said on Friday that the process of the strategic partnership with the Government ITI in Hyderabad started six to seven months ago.

“We had asked for space and the requisite environment in the ITI and are working on having our maintenance programmes incorporated with the regular curriculum,” he said.

Guest lectures

Mr. Prabhu launched the Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) Centre at the ITI here and said that the company’s strategic partnership with the ITI, Musheerabad was a part of corporate social responsibility initiative.

The ASSET programme would enhance technical training for the students and the value addition was that there would be guest lectures from Ford’s Master Technicians.

The programme was a judicious blend of classroom inputs and practical training, using even Ford process simulators, he said.

There would be an exclusive Ford Technical Training Corner where students could work with practice kits as they get trained on the company’s ‘Mechanic Motor Vehicle’ curriculum.

Talent pool

Such technical training collaboration by the Ford in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States would be the first to help create a pool of talented and skilled professionals.

The ASSET in Musheerabad ITI was the eighth in the series after Kochi, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Mohali, Chennai, Sonepat and Jaipur.

Last year, 175 trained technicians from ASSET centres in South India were absorbed in Ford dealerships and workshops, Mr. Prabhu said.
