Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh E.S.L. Narasimhan lauded the National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) as a tool to make governance accountable to people, and to spread awareness as to what the Government owes to its people.

Having launched a digital library and an NDLM Centre set up by the Cyient Foundation at a Mandal Parishath Primary School on the Telangana State Special Police premises at Kondapur, Mr. Narasimhan said that corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives should not end up as a single instance of charity, but should run through years to lay foundation for better citizens and better lives.

The digital library with 18 systems is the third in the State and intended for the 270 students studying in the school, the Founder-Trustee of the foundation B.V.R. Mohan Reddy informed. The NDLM Centre, on the other hand, is the first such in the State and is aimed at empowering neighbourhood communities with digital literacy, he said.

The Foundation had adopted 11 schools of the State, besides providing sanitation and maintenance facilities to 54 more schools in Serilingampally, Mr. Reddy said and informed that two per cent of three years’ average profits as stipulated by the Government of India is being used for CSR activities. A minimum of Rs.5 crore will be spent by the foundation in this year.
