A complicated redo, or repeat, bypass heart surgery was carried out on a 70-year-old patient by a team led by heart surgeon Prateek Bhatnagar at Olive Hospitals.
The patient, Jaggi, had undergone a bypass surgery in New Delhi in 1993. After a decade, it was detected that his bypass grafts were also blocked. Subsequently, in 2009 and later in 2010, Mr. Jaggi received stents to clear the blocked bypass grafts. However, his condition did not improve.
“Angiography showed that his heart was surviving on only one artery and all others were blocked. He was also suffering from angina, a condition of severe chest pain. Mr. Jaggi had to undergo a second bypass surgery and we did it successfully. We managed to bypass all the blocked arteries. He has recovered well and has been discharged,” Dr. Bhatnagar said.
