CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat will address the ‘Maha Dharna’ being planned by the Telangana Bhoonirvasithula Committee on July 26, at Indira Park. The demonstration is being organised against the controversial GO 123, which allegedly overrides the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
The party’s Telangana State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram announced this at a press conference here on Tuesday, and said the demonstration would be attended by the oustees of different projects across the State, with participation from close to 5,000 members.
He severely criticised the GO 123, and said the government wants to implement it forcibly, in contravention of its own affidavit submitted to the High Court.
Recalling the ‘padayatras’ conducted in various districts between July 1 and 17 by the committee, Mr. Veerabhadram said the campaign had huge response. It was revealed that the mandatory ‘Gram Sabhas’ were not conducted anywhere, and that the farmers were being coerced into accepting the compensation under the GO. Cases were slapped against people for organising protests, and even women were jailed subsequently, he said.
