Lakumarapu Nikhil Kumar’s father owns an automobile shop in his native Mahabubnagar district. It is a small, modest one. Nikhil’s achievement on Monday, on other hand, is no mean feat.

The third-ranker in the Eamcet engineering exam, both his parents, natives of Arkepalli village in Madugula Mandal, did not go beyond school and wanted to see their dreams come through their son.

“My parents’ support and my maternal uncle’s encouragement has made this possible,” said Nikhil, who stood fourth in the IIT-JEE (Main) exam. He is confident of a good score in the JEE (Advanced) and of getting into IIT-Bombay. He is also a silver medallist at the Junior International Science Olympiad, which was held at Iran this year.

Engineering topper Nandigam Pavan Kumar is the son of private company employee while his mother is a house wife. A brilliant student all through school, he also secured the 335 rank in the JEE (Main). “It is the first time that someone from my family has got such a high rank,” he said proudly.

Interestingly, all the top 10 ranks this year, in both engineering and medicine streams, were bagged by students of the Narayana Srichaitanya institutions. Sindhu Narayana, chairperson of the group said the performance was on expected lines, given the coaching imparted. All the toppers would also shine at the national level in various exams, and this was due to the innovative teaching methods adopted, said Sushma, academic director.

The top 10 in medicine are G. Sai Srinivas, B. Divya, K. Prudhvi Raj, D. Haritha. V. Manognitha Reddy, S. Bharat Kumar, P. Srividya, Sathwik Gangireddy, R. Sai Harsha Teja and Ganta Sai Nikhila. In the engineering stream, the top 10 include N. Pavan Kumar, G. Chanukya Vardhan Reddy, L. Nikhil Kumar, N. Divaker Reddy, V. Aditya Vardhan, P. Prem Abhinav, B. Akshay Kumar Reddy, G. Sai Kashyap, P.S. Surya Praharsha and C. Sai Chetan.
