BJP takes to the streets demanding action against Owaisi

July 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Accusing the ruling TRS government of toeing the MIM line and demanding the arrest of its leader Asaduddin Owaisi for offering legal aid to NIA arrested IS supporters, BJP activists took to the streets to gather citizens’ support here on Wednesday.

With the slogan ‘Save Hyderabad’, the party would collect citizens’ signatures by holding street-side meetings throughout the capital for the next five days. To pressurise the government to officially celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 is also part of the campaign.

‘Hyderabad a mini-Bharat’

“Hyderabad is a mini-Bharat and home to people of various caste, creed, language and communities. The city has been earlier hit by bomb blasts where several innocents lost their lives, but when police thwart plans to destroy the city, the Majlis leader wants to support IS sympathisers. Why is the government silent?” questioned State president K. Laxman at Malakpet.

The TRS government was bending over backwards to accommodate MIM even if the party “had played no role in the formation of the Telangana State and had opposed it”, he said.

Another example of the TRS government implementing Majlis agenda is in the refusal to officially celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day although Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had earlier assured to do so.

“Hyderabad did not get Independence along with the rest of India on August 15, 1947, but on September 17, 1950 after the police action,” maintained Dr. Laxman.

“Why is no action taken when they assault senior Congress leaders like Shabbir Ali, CPM leader Madhu or even raid Deputy CM Mohd. Ali’s house? Till a court intervened, the government did not bother to file a charge-sheet against Akbaruddin Owaisi for his tirade against Hindu gods,” he reminded.

The BJP will meet the Union Home Secretary and others with the signatures demanding action against MIM.

Senior party leaders were present.
