Better services await SCR freight customers

South Central Railway General Manager P.K. Saxena on Tuesday clarified that Indian Railways is committed to provide better services to freight loading customers, specifically in the coal, cement and iron ore sectors.

Addressing officials in the Zone through video-conference from Guntakal, he assured that he would consider the request from customers seeking to increase the speed of goods trains at sidings. Expressing confidence that the Zone would meet targets set by the Railway Board, despite the slow down in the industrial sector, he advised representatives of the industry to continuing patronising the railways over other modes of transport, saying it was the safest, fastest and the most economical mode of mass transportation.

SCR’s Chief Operations Manager J.N. Jha said the Zone had done well in the fiscal 2014-15, registering an increase of over 9 million tonnes over the last financial year, by touching 117 million tonnes in freight loading. The growth was largely due to the loading of coal, cement and iron ore, he said, exuding optimism that this year too, SCR would perform as well, with the cooperation of participating industries.

Chief Commercial Manager G. Laxminarayan underscored the need to implement 100 per cent e-Demand registration and e-Payment options for better administrative results. He promised whatever help the industry needs from SCR and assured that bottlenecks would be removed for customers, thus enhancing traffic. Those present included representatives of Kakinada Port, Krishnapatnam Port Trust, Singareni Collieries, JSW, My Home, Ultratech, Vasavadatta Cements, TS Genco, NTPC, Raichur Thermal Power Station, Coromandel, Ramco, Jaypee Cements, Penna Cements, India Cements and Bharti Cements, a release said.
