December 30, 2016 08:14 pm | Updated 08:14 pm IST - SANGAREDDY:

The district court has acquitted the MIM leaders who were allegedly involved in openly abusing the District Collector. The case was struck down as there was no evidence.

According to Nizamuddin, lawyer of the MIM leaders, his clients were acquitted as the government leader had failed to produce evidence.

MIM Lok Sabha member Asaduddin Owaisi and others had staged a dharna on the main road on April 16, 2005, objecting to the demolition of a maszid. The then Collector, Ashok Kumar Singhal, had tried to persuade the MIM leaders to leave the place but the latter had entered into argument with the Collector and allegedly abused him. Following this, the Collector had filed a case against the MIM leaders with the Patancheru police. Cases were registered against the MIM leaders under Sections 147, 148, 353, 504 and 506 of the IPC. After eleven and a half years, the case was struck down and the MIM leaders were acquitted.

Those acquitted are Asadiddin Owaisi, Akbaruddin Owaisi, Ahammad Pasha Quadri, Mumtaz Khan, Mozam Khan and Afsar Khan in addition to 24 others belonging to Muttangi.
