Congress groups clash in Adilabad

January 07, 2017 12:16 am | Updated 12:16 am IST - ADILABAD:

Group rivalry took prominence during the protest on demonetisation organised by the Congress party in Adilabad district headquarters on Friday. Activists of the groups owing allegiance to former District Congress Committee president C. Ramchander Reddy and Bhargav Deshpande who had unsuccessfully contested last Assembly elections from Adilabad jostled during a rally.

The Congress had organised the protest against demonetisation as part of the programme chalked out by All India Congress Committee. About 2,000 activists of the party who had come from all parts of the district to participate gathered at the Ramlila Maidan and took out a rally towards collectorate led by former Minister and party in charge of the district Sabitha Indra Reddy.

The activists from Mr. Reddy’s camp accused the other workers of not raising slogans praising the leadership of the veteran former DCC president. This culminated in the raival groups jostling during the rally near NTR Chowk.

It was after the intervention of Ms. Reddy that the activists backed out and proceeded towards the Collectorate. A delegation comprising of the district in charge and DCC chief A. Maheshwar Reddy and AICC observer Kavitha Reddy handed over a memorandum to officials at the collectorate enlisting their demands.
