KAMAREDDY: For the first time in Telangana, the police in the district used the CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking System) here on Monday to conduct a review of the crimes reported in the district in 2016.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad and Nizamabad range, Akun Sabharwal reviewed various crimes reported in the district last year. As all the data since 2009 was available in the system, he analysed the crime patterns for a five-year and three-year period.
As real-time crime review has become a reality with the launch of CCTNS in Telangana, Kamareddy is the first district where the system was put to use appropriately. Daily and monthly reviews are taking place using CCTNS.
Crime pattern
Crime analytics and reports generated in CCTNS under various heads of crime gave a glimpse of the crime pattern such as reducing fatal road accidents over a period of time and slight increase in economic offences.
As stage of the cases and progress in investigations can also be monitored using the system, it has enabled supervisory officers give relevant instructions to SHOs to improve policing in their respective jurisdiction from the point of view of crime prevention and crime detection.
Empowering tool
The CCTNS has become an empowering tool in the hands of the department to improve itself, according to Superintendent of Police N. Swetha Reddy.
She along with the SDPOs and circle inspectors attended the review . Mr. Sabharwal guided the officers to use the system on a daily basis to get a better grip over crime investigation.
