Sunday scorcher; rain brings relief

May 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 08:00 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi continued to reel under scorching heat on Sunday with the unrelenting mercury crossing the 45 degrees Celsius mark.

However, light showers towards the evening, due to a western disturbance, brought much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.

Monday may bring similar cheer in the form of dust storms and thunder showers.

“On Sunday, maximum temperature at Palam was 45.6 degrees Celsius and 42.7 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung. Due to a cyclone dissipating over Bangladesh and westerly winds from Rajasthan coming back to Delhi, the maximum temperature has gone up by one to two degrees,” said Dr. R.K. Jenamani, Director-in-Charge, IGI Airport MeT unit.

“In view of one or two spells of dust storm and thunderstorms forecast for the next two days, the rise in temperature may be restricted,” Mr. Jenamani said.

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday are likely to hover at 43 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively.
