The 18-year-old girl was stabbed seven times

A teenager was stabbed over half-a-dozen times by a stalker in Munirka here this past Wednesday.

While the critically injured girl is recuperating at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, the accused has surrendered before the police.

The 18-year-old Munirka resident was on her way to typing class when Pradeep Kumar accosted her at Kapoor Wali Gali around 5 p.m. on July 2 and proceeded to attack her with a knife.

The girl, who was stabbed seven times, sustained wounds in the abdomen, legs and neck.

“Passersby gathered at the spot hearing her cries for help. Fearing that the crowd may beat him up, the attacker fled the spot. He later surrendered at the R.K. Puram police station,” said the victim’s cousin.

Her cousin, however, rues that the attack could have been prevented had the police taken their repeated complaints seriously.

“Pradeep stays in a rented house at Mohammadpur along with friends. Originally from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, he has been troubling my sister for quite a while, accosting her on her way to school on several occasions in the past year. We filed police complaints, but he failed to mend his ways. We then lodged a first information report six months ago, but he managed to secure bail within days. This emboldened him and he openly began threatening her with dire consequences. He had appeared in court in connection with a hearing in the case on the day of the attack. A few hours later, he attacked her,” said the cousin.

The family learnt about the attack two hours later, when a policeman came to inform them that the girl had met with an accident and was admitted to AIIMS.

The girl’s father is a chauffeur and the mother works as a maid in a school.
