Public sector hydel power major Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) limited has decided to diversify into alternative power sources like wind, thermal and solar energy.
Chairman of the company Ramesh Narian Mishra on Wednesday said the company has at least 12 under-construction and commissioned projects under its fold in India and abroad. He said the SJVN is generating 1912 MW of hydel power from its flagship projects of Nathpa Jhakri and Rampur projects and around 48 MW of wind power from Khirvire project in Maharashtra.
Talking to the media, Mr. Mishra said the Schedule A company has been rated as “excellent” for its achievement of MoU targets in the last three years by the Department of Public Enterprises of Government of India.
The SJVN has generated 8,136 million units against the MoU target of 7,850 million units in 2014-15. The company has achieved the Plant Availability Factor of 105.5 percent against the MoU target of 92.5percent in the same year, he claimed.
The company has a net worth of Rs 10,203.04 crore with the Central Government controlling 64.46 per cent, Himachal Government 25.51 percent and the public 10.03 percent of the total shares.
On the steep fall of around Rs 600 crore in the projected revenue for the year 2016, from 2,817 crore in 2015 to 2,224 crore in 2016, the chairman said the company had got some arrears during this period.
He admitted that the SJVN has not made any progress at the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Project since 2008. Its investment decision too has not yet been taken by the Centre and the cost of the project has gone up to Rs.1002 crore at 2014 price level which works out to more than Rs.15 crore per MW.
