Sexual harassment accused official writes to Jung

August 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - New Delhi:

Days after former Delhi Chief Secretary Omesh Saigal was served a notice by the Delhi Commission of Woman (DCW) for allegedly harassing a 52-year old woman, he wrote to Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday seeking action against the woman, her husband and DCW chief Swati Maliwal.

Charges against Maliwal

In his letter, Mr. Saigal, who is the president of the managing committee (MC) of Panchshila Co-op House Building Society Limited, alleged that Ms. Maliwal had deliberately violated Section 16 of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. He also claimed that the DCW chief had wrongfully disclosed the contents of the complaint against him, along with his name and that of the managing committee, to the public.

Besides the DCW notice, an FIR was also lodged against Mr Saigal last month. The complainant had alleged that he touched her inappropriately in the swimming pool of Panchsila Club and also intimidated her.

However, in his letter to Mr. Jung, Mr. Saigal said he was being falsely implicated since he had got into a verbal spat with the woman during a managing committee meeting. Following the meeting, he served her a defamation notice and her club membership, along with the membership of her husband, was revoked.
