Investigators probing the abetment to suicide case against suspended Vijay Vihar Station House Officer, inspector Dinesh Kumar, are looking for the two men who handed over Rekha’s suicide note and other belongings to the civil defence volunteers who were the first to attend to her.

“We are probing the identity of the two men who handed over the hand-written suicide note and the printed but unsigned document recording her ordeal. Since the allegations made against the inspector are serious, we need to look at all these possibilities,” said a police source.

The police suspect that one of the two could have been Ramniwas himself or one of his aides. This, after allegations made by Ramniwas’ wife Rita, that her husband had in the past made Rekha consume poison to accuse his rivals of trying to murder her. Ramniwas and Rekha were allegedly involved in a relationship and stayed in the same house as Rita, much to her chagrin.

A 2003 murder case had introduced Ramniwas to Rekha. Her brother Shailendra and Ramniwas were co-accused in the case. While Shailendra was arrested, Ramniwas managed to evade the police for several years and got close to Rekha during this time. Ramniwas has other serious allegations against him, including rape, assault and trespassing, said Rita.

She added that Rekha was an accomplice in his “illegal activities” and had in 2004 consumed poison at the directions of Ramniwas to frame his rival Kishan Pal. Rita added that Kishan was booked for attempt to murder.

Rita even accused Rekha of attempting to overdose in order to pull off something similar against the inspector. However, the police refused to comment on the issue.

“The murder case ended in an acquittal for Shailendra, and Ramniwas surrendered after the verdict. While in prison, he assured me he would leave Rekha. However, since his release in November 2015, he brought her to our house and she was living here since despite my opposition,” said Rita.
