Two men were arrested for their alleged involvement in what was, till recently, a blind murder case reported from outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri, the police said on Saturday.
Identified as Vishal, 20 and Veer Singh, 21, the duo allegedly killed one Ajay Kumar Tiwari, 40, for not returning a loan of Rs.15,000 which he owed Vishal, said Ghanshyam Bansal, additional DCP (outer).
“On August 25, at about 6 a.m., the body of an unidentified man was found in a park at Sultanpuri. The person was brutally murdered and his body was subsequently preserved at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital Mortuary and all efforts were made to get the body identified,” said Mr. Bansal.
“Finally, on September 7, one Suresh Chand Tiwari, a resident of Nangloi, approached us and identified the body following which a post-mortem examination was conducted and a team was formed to identify and trace the accused,” Mr. Bansal added.
According to the police, the investigation consisted of retrieving call detail records of the victim, which revealed that a mobile number was plying on the IMEI number that belonged to him.
One Ashok Kumar, a resident of Gurgaon, who was using the phone was questioned and told the police that it had been given to him by one Vishal, a resident of the Avantika Colony near Rohini on August 27.
“On September 14, Vishal was apprehended and, during interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he was a friend of the victim. He said that Ajay had borrowed Rs.15,000 from him and was not returning the same,” Mr. Bansal claimed.
“So, Vishal, along with his friend, Veer Singh, brutally murdered Ajay at a public park located in B-3, Sultanpuri with the help of a piece of wire, knife and blade,” Mr. Bansal added.
According to the police, the accused duo first strangled Ajay with the wire and later stabbed him on his face and neck. After killing him they used a blade and put numerous cut marks on his face so that it could not be identified.
