City DCP Sanjib Arora said Umesh was wanted in as many as 11 cases by different police stations of the city for his alleged involvement in tender fixing, extortion and supply of arms and ammunition and was an associate of dreaded mafia Dhalasamanta brothers.

Extorted money

Mr. Arora added that Umesh was handled by hardcore criminal Bhajana alias Santosh Sahu of Chauliaganj to extort money from local shopkeepers, bus owners, works contractors and those purchasing land or constructing new houses.

“He was also asking money from owners of private educational institutions, mandaps, nursing homes and private companies in the name of Dhalasamanta brothers at gunpoint,” the DCP informed.

With this, the number of arrests in the D-link go up to 34, he added.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the city police have filed chargesheets in at least four more cases involving the Dhalasamanta brothers at the local SDJM court.

The police had earlier filed chargesheets in four cases. A total of 21 cases have recently been registered against the mafia brothers and their associates.
