: Thanks to frequent power cuts, there seems to be no respite from the sweltering heat for residents of Noida and Ghaziabad.
Both the cities are facing power outages, some as long as four hours. Reeta Gupta, a resident of Rajendra Nagar in Ghaziabad, rued that electricity cuts become worse during the night.
“I have a seven-month-old baby. With long power cuts during the night, it becomes difficult for her to sleep,” she said.
The power demand of Ghaziabad is around 950 MW, and the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) supplies about 900 MW to the city.
“We are able to promptly meet the power demand with routine load shedding. If beyond that any outages are occurring, then those are due to local faults,” said M.C. Sharma, a superintendent engineer at UPPCL.
He added that the situation would improve after a month as a 400-KV sub-station was going to be inaugurated in Indirapuram, which would benefit residents there as well as those living in Vasundhara and some parts of Vaishali.
Mukul Singhal, a superintendent engineer in Noida, said the electricity supply in the city had remained normal this summer. “We supply 1,100 MW in Noida. On an average, Noida gets power supply for 23 out of 24 hours in a day. There are local faults that take a couple of hours to repair,” he said.
Mr. Singhal added that the frequency of breakdowns had not gone up from last year.
