Thrashed over a parking issue in West Delhi’s Nangloi over a week ago, a man succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS on Thursday.
Identified as Akash, a 22-year-old resident of Nangloi, the victim had been beaten by a shopkeeper and his helper following an argument over parking his scooter in front of their shop.
Senior police officers said they had already arrested the two suspects before Akash died. “Earlier the duo had been booked for attempt to commit culpable homicide. With the victim having died, the section has been converted into culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” said a senior police officer.
The assault had taken place on April 21 when Akash and his friend were parking their scooter in front of a footwear shop in a market in Nangloi. The shopkeeper and his helper had objected to it, claiming the space was meant for their vehicle. That had led to an argument and a subsequent scuffle. Akash had suffered serious injuries and had been rushed to a local hospital from where he had been referred to AIIMS.
The local police had registered two separate FIRs, one each on the statements of the two parties. Akash and his friend had been booked for causing hurt with dangerous weapons. Two persons from the other side were subsequently arrested.
Akash, who worked with a private firm, was the sole earning member of his family.
