May 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - NEW DELHI:

An Indian black scorpion and a green vine snake were seized from a poacher near Karol Bagh. The animals are currently under the care of wildlife conservation organisation Wildlife SOS.

The police received a tip-off about a man in possession of the animals. They immediately took him in custody for possession of protected wildlife species and contacted Wildlife SOS on the 24-hour rescue helpline (9871963535).

The green vine snake ( Ahaetulla nasuta ), also known as the common vine snake, is a slender green tree snake that is mildly venomous. Widely distributed in South Asia, it feeds on a variety of prey including lizards, small birds, frogs, rodents, etc. The Indian black scorpion is found in the Indian subcontinent and like all other genera of the Scorpionidae family, it possesses venom used to paralyse or kill its prey.

Head constable Brihm Swaroop said: “We received information about a man in possession of a snake and a scorpion. He was using it to entertain curious passersby in Karol Bagh market. We immediately took him under custody and contacted Wildlife SOS.”
