Humiliated, teen sets himself afire

November 27, 2014 08:10 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:44 pm IST - FARIDABAD/NEW DELHI:

A 13-year-old boy set himself on fire inside the school premises in Faridabad’s Sector 29 on Wednesday.

Police said that the reason behind the incident was not immediately known. The family, however, alleged that the victim was upset after being humiliated by a teacher. The victim was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital and was stated to be in critical condition after he sustained 45 per cent burns.

The boy, a Class VIII student, locked himself inside the washroom of Holy Child Public School around 9 a.m., doused himself with petrol and set himself afire. The Sector 31 police station SHO Gulab Singh said that the boy had carried the inflammable liquid in his school bag. On the possible reason for the boy taking the step, Mr. Singh said, “The boy is not fit for making a statement. He had lost his father a few years back and his maternal grandfather passed away just two days ago.” No FIR has been filed yet.
