Huda City Centre-Samaypur Badli line likely by Oct-end

September 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Outer Delhi is set to be connected by metro with the extension of Huda City Centre –Jahangirpuri line to Samaypur Badli likely to be opened by October end.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected to inspect the 4.49-km stretch on October 12-13.

Though this extension of the yellow line is relatively smaller with just three stations, it is bound to make commuting easier for lakhs of people residing in North Delhi areas like Jahangirpuri, Samaypur Badli, Transport Nagar, G.T. Karnal Road and parts of Rohini.

At present, Jahangirpuri is one of the terminal stations on the yellow line and its commuters have to change multiple trains to get to the heart of the Capital.

Trial runs on the Delhi Metro’s Jahangirpuri-Samaypur Badli corridor began on July 3.

“We had sent the application with all necessary paperwork to the CMRS on September 9 and received the dates for safety inspection on Tuesday. Our trial runs were perfectly smooth and all segments are operating fine. The line will be thrown open to public as soon as we get the safety clearance from the Commissioner,” said a metro official. The average ridership on this section is expected to be around 30,000.

The three elevated stations under this section include Badli Mor, Rohini Sector 18 and Samaypur Badli. By 2016, the ridership on this route is expected to touch 7,186 at Badli; 11,133 at Rohini Sector-18 and 10,262 at Samaypur Badli. The line was earlier set to open in March.

The Badli Mor station on Jahangirpuri-Samaypur Badli metro corridor has been designed in a way that the structure will allow for expansion under the proposed Phase IV. Under Phase IV, the station will offer inter-change service between the proposed R.K. Ashram-Mukundpur-Janakpuri (West) section that will connect the presently operational Line 2 with Line 7 (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) and Line 8 (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden), which are being constructed as part of Phase III.

Once operational, after the trial runs and mandatory approvals, the length of the yellow line from HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon to Samaypur Badli will be 49 km.
