Haryana gives Rs. 54-cr in relief, asks NDMA for funds

State has received compensation claims worth Rs. 555 crore

: The Haryana government has so far disbursed over Rs.50 crore as compensation to the victims of the Jat reservation agitation in February.

An official spokesperson said that as of April 6, Rs.53.63 crores have been disbursed by the State government to the victims as relief. “The State government has provided assistance to the victims of this man-made disaster by diverting funds from its own Plan Budget, as an interim measure, to ensure that the affected victims, especially from the economically weaker sections, get some relief to restart their livelihoods,” the spokesperson said.

He said that compensation claims for 2,077 private immovable properties worth Rs.555 crore have been received. Besides a large number of government properties and 300 private vehicles have been reported to be damaged.

The actual assessment of the claims amount is being done by the district administrations along with survey experts in an expeditious manner.

Seventeen businessmen in the Sonipat Municipal Corporation area had claimed Rs.33 crore as compensation for loss during the agitation.

Some of these have been disbursed including Rs.3.5 crore as part-payment after an inquiry by the district administration.

In Gohana town in Sonipat, the district administration has disbursed over Rs.4 crore as part-payment to the victims.

The district administration had received self-assessment forms from 180 affected shopkeepers in the town. Of these, 162 shopkeepers have been disbursed Rs.4.79 crore. It includes shopkeepers who have claimed loss of Rs.1 crore. The loss claims for more than Rs.1 crore will be assessed by a panel before settlement.

Government asks NDMA for assistance

The Haryana government has also urged the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide assistance to the tune of Rs.1,000 crore to the State so that appropriate compensation and relief can be provided to the victims, and the State can move ahead with the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation.
