Goel writes to Rajnath about corrupt official

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vijay Goel on Tuesday said he had written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung demanding the dismissal of a senior Municipal Corporation official for “incompetence and corruption”.

Mr. Goel accused the IAS officer of promoting corruption and looking the other way when it came to illegal construction. The MP said that a number of councillors had complained to him that the official doesn’t listen to them and doesn’t work in the interest of public.

“Neither is he able to take any decisions nor is he able to tackle his subordinates. The power conferred upon him are being used whimsically, instead of implementing the Standing Committee or Corporation Resolutions, especially where the great public interest in involved,” Mr. Goel claimed.

Adding that illegal construction was “going on everywhere”, with Karol Bagh being the main hub, Mr. Goel said the CBI and the CVC must look into the matter.

Previous warnings

The MP said he was “forced to demand” the official’s ouster because despite being previously warned by him about corruption, illegal construction and inefficient officers he “never mended his ways”.

“Few months ago, I wrote a strict letter where I said that either he was not able to work or he doesn’t want to work. Officials like him make a mockery of the PM’s Clean India Drive, Mr. Goel said.

The MP added that the BJP shouldn’t bear the brunt of public’s anger because of incompetent, inefficient and corrupt officials.

Mr. Gupta said that he would soon seek a list of corrupt officers from the public and “wage a war against such officers” in the Delhi government and the municipal corporations.
