: The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESI) opened its first day-care centre at the ESIC dispensary in Sarojini Nagar on Friday.

ESIC director General Deepak Kumar inaugurated the centre. It has six beds.

Mr. Kumar said dispensaries were so far being used for consultation and dispensing medicines. “It was felt that if day-care could be added, it would benefit a large number of people who avail ESI facilities,” he said.

Upgrade soon

In the first stage, six dispensaries have been selected to provide this facility. The ESIC plans to upgrade it to 30 beds and implement in all the major dispensaries of Delhi-NCR.

“This facility marks a major step towards providing better health facilities. Once the dispensaries become self-sufficient, they will help take the load off from hospitals,” Mr. Kumar said.

Mr. Kumar said the facilities provided at the ESI dispensaries included pharmacy, lab, X-ray scanning, and specialist consultation.
