Delhi sees rise in GSDP

: Last year, Delhi saw a growth in its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) by 13 per cent and in its per capita income by 11.16 per cent.

Delhi’s Finance Minister Manish Sisodia stated that the GSDP at the current prices for the year 2015-16 was estimated at Rs. 5,58,745 crore against Rs. 4,94,460 crore in 2014-15. The estimates have been prepared with new base year 2011-12.

“The economy of Delhi is going on the path of sustainable growth,” said Mr Sisodia. “The rank-wise position of Delhi as per the estimates of GSDP is better than that of some States such as Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Odisha,” he added.

The Minister further said that Delhi ranked second among all States / UTs. In 2014-15, the per capita income in Haryana was Rs 1.50 lakh and that of Punjab was Rs 1.15 lakh.

“The per capita income of Delhi for 2015-16 is about three times higher than the national average of Rs. 93,231,” he said.

The service sector is the biggest contributor in Delhi’s economy with 82.3 per cent, followed by the secondary sector at 15.5 per cent and the primary sector at 2.2 per cent. The share of the manufacturing sector is about 8.80 per cent, that of the construction sector is 4.01 per cent, and that of hotels and restaurant is 14.97 per cent.
