April 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - New Delhi:

The bodies of a man and a woman, possibly in their 20s, were recovered from the railway tracks near Shahbad Mohammadpur railway station in Dwarka on Tuesday morning.

The couple was found holding hand, prompting the police to suspect they were lovers. No suicide note was found on them. The police have also not been able to throw light on their identities.

Under the conditions, the police stations in Delhi and NCR have been informed and the pictures of the deceased have been shared with them.

While the man’s body was found in two parts, the woman’s body had injuries on the head. The bodies were spotted around 6 a.m. on Tuesday by a railway staff member. The staff member informed the Delhi Police after which a police team was dispatched to the spot.

“The spot where the bodies were lying is around 200 metres from the Shahbad Mohammadpur railway station. The bodies have been preserved at a mortuary in Sabzi Mandi for identification purposes,” said a senior police officer.

The police said that the police stations in the nearby areas have not alerted about any such couple having gone missing in the recent past. CCTV cameras at the railway station are being scanned in a bid to get clues.
