From an MP to Lalu Prasad’s relative or even a nominated member of a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking like Steel Authorities of India Limited (SAIL), he would pose as anyone.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested an alleged con who for nearly the last one decade had pocketed several crores cheating people on the pretext of providing them jobs.

Khadi style

On the payrolls of Praveen Kumar Singh were not just government employees but also local political leaders of almost all parties at various places including Delhi and his home State of Bihar.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said Praveen Kumar Singh was nabbed by a team of Crime Branch, after arriving in Delhi from Kolkata, at the security check gate of the IGI Airport.

“Singh wore khadi while posing as an MP and allegedly duped several persons. He also cheated proprietors of several companies assuring them of granting business contracts.

“We have also seized 77 blank letter pads of Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha from him,” said Mr. Yadav.

He added that bank accounts of Singh with transactions running into crores of rupees are being verified.

The role of his family members in holding properties is being probed.
