A Special court here on Wednesday awarded three years imprisonment to managing director Pradeep Rathi and chief executive officer Udit Rathi of Rathi Steel and Power Limited (RSPL) each in a coal block allocation scam case.
The court imposed a fine of Rs. 50 lakh on the company. The Company's assistant general manager Kushal Aggarwal was sentenced to two years of imprisonment. Special Judge Bharat also imposed fines of Rs. 50 lakh, Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh on Uudit Rathi, Pradeep Rathi and Kushal Aggarwal respectively. The case pertains to irregularities in the allocation of Kesla North coal block in Chhattisgarh to RSPL.
However, the court later released them on bail for 30 days as per Section 389 of the Criminal Procedure Code subject to furnishing a personal bond of Rs. 2 lakh with one surety of a like amount by each accused to file appeals in the Delhi High Court against their conviction.
“Keeping in view the submissions made and the overall facts and circumstances of the case, I admit convicted persons Pradeep Rathi, Udit Rathi and Kushal Aggarwal to bail for 30 days upon their furnishing a personal bond and a surety bond in sum of Rs. 2 lakh each and subject to depositing of the entire fine amounts positively by August 2. 02.08.16,’’ Mr. Parashar said.
