BSP, BJP walkout in Assembly

February 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:44 am IST - Lucknow:

The Opposition BSP and BJP on Thursday staged a walkout in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly during Question Hour expressing dissatisfaction over the government’s reply on compensation to farmers hit by hailstorm.

Replying to supplementary questions, Revenue Minister Shivpal Yadav told the House that against the demand of over Rs. 7,500 crore, the Centre provided Rs. 2,801 crore, that too four months late.

As the minister stressed that the State government was sensitive towards the plight of farmers and additional compensation will be distributed once more funds are made available by the Centre, Satish Mahana and Laxmikant Bajpai (both BJP) asked the government to rise above party politics and not dilute the matter.

Dharampal Singh and Swami Prasad Maurya (both BSP) alleged that the State and Central governments were together cheating the farmers and sought to know when more funds would be made available to them.

The minister’s reply that it will be done when money for the same will be made available failed to satisfy the BSP and BJP members, who staged a walkout. - PTI
