BJP spreading rumours about water shortage: Minister

May 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:42 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Reports of mass migration from a village in outer Delhi due to water shortage is a conspiracy by local Bharatiya Janata Party workers, Delhi Jal Board chairperson Kapil Mishra said on Friday.

Earlier this week, there were media reports stating that several families had fled from Ghuman Hera village in Matiala Assembly constituency due to water crisis.

A team of Jal Board officials accompanied Mr. Mishra and Matiala MLA Gulab Singh during their visit the village on Friday.

“We found that reports of migration due to water crisis were fake.

Residents told us that the BJP mandal in-charge of the area had been involved in the conspiracy and that not even one person had migrated,” said Mr. Mishra.

Photos of locked houses circulated last week were actually old houses that residents had moved out of 15 years ago, after constructing new buildings in the area, he added.

While at the village, Mr. Mishra asked the Jal Board officials to complete any pending projects in Matiala.

“It is unfortunate that the BJP is indulging in acts of misinformation and negative politics.

The Jal Board has done stellar work in the field of water production, management and distribution across the city, covering 217 unauthorised colonies in the last financial year,” said Mr. Mishra.
