February 07, 2017 01:04 am | Updated 01:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Garments worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire at a two-storey warehouse in west Delhi’s Mundka on Monday. A total of 29 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused after nearly six hours of firefighting.

There have been no reports of any casualties in the fire. A Delhi Fire Services officer said the fire call was received at around 1 p.m. The fire was doused around 7 p.m. and cooling operations have been launched, he said.

Short circuit

An adjacent footwear manufacturing unit also caught fire, but was saved without much damage, the officer said.

Police said that prima facie, the cause of fire is believed to be a short circuit in electrical fittings. A case has been registered and investigation has been launched.

“It appears to be a case of short circuit but probe will pinpoint the cause. The extent of damage is also not known but garments worth lakhs of rupees were reportedly gutted,” said a police officer. PTI
