8 dead, 21 hurt in Bengal accident

Eight persons were killed and 21 were injured in a road accident on Thursday in the Belpahari area of Paschim Medinipur district. The incident took place as a pick-up van carrying a wedding party of 29 overturned after hitting a tree on a hilly road near the Dulki village under the Belpahari Police Station.

The wedding party was on their way back to Muransole village in Paschim Medinipur after the wedding at Bandwan in the neighbouring Purulia district.

“While six died on the spot, two more succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Jhargram district hospital,” Superintendent of Police of Jhargram (police district) Sukhendu Hira told The Hindu .
