60 MGD water to be added

June 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 16, 2016 10:11 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Jal Board’s network will get a boost with 60 million gallons of water per day being added by the end of the year through the floodplain water harvesting project at Palla.

A total of 105 tubewells at Palla, where the Yamuna enters Delhi, will be used to store extra water that will be available in case of emergencies. DJB chairperson Kapil Mishra, who visited the site of the project on Wednesday, said that the initiative would bolster the backup plan for the city.

The DJB would be setting up a new reservoir at Palla, which will be monitored through a central control room.

The existing pipeline in the area would be repaired, which will carry 28 MGD. A new pipeline for carrying 50 MGD would also be laid.

The DJB would also instal sensors for monitoring the salinity, nitrates, fluorides and iron in water.
